The Details
If you’ve never worn Newton’s before, your first inclination might be to look down on them because of the lugs. Well don’t. There is nothing wrong with them. You really don’t feel them at all. If anything, they provide you with an opportunity for target practice.
The heal to toe drop is 2mm. So they definitely have a more minimalist feel. If you’ve never worn shoes with such a small drop, you might need to ease into them so that you can give your calves and achilles a chance to adjust.
The shoe is light as hell too with a somewhat wide toe box and a super breathable upper. The shoe has less cushion than most but is still very comfortable. It feels very responsive as well.
I’ve put 400 miles on one pair and I liked them so much, I bought a second pair. The only thing that I didn’t like was that they are a little bit slippery on wet asphalt which made it hard to go faster at times. Concrete though is no problem. The other thing that people may not like is the color combinations. Newton’s have always been pretty bright. Personally, I like the choices, but I can see where others may not like what is available.
